They appear to be covered by a solid piece of plastic that should provide quite a bit of extra durabiility when used to strap it down in the wind. This adds thickness and spreads out the load beyond just the grommet connection to the tarp, so it's a smart design choice. I'm optimistic this tarp will hold up to the elements outside quite well. It’s got a great, heavy weight to it (the 10 Mil thickness is no joke) and doesn't feel like those thin, \"disposable\" tarps you find at big-box stores. The reinforced edges and brass grommets look really well-made and sturdy, so I’m not worried about them ripping out when I tie it down. I’m planning to use this for some serious outdoor projects in my garden, and I’m confident it’ll keep everything dry and protected from the sun. It’s rare to find this kind of size and UV resistance at such a good value. You can easily tell by feeling the strength and durability of its 10-mil thickness, and by examining the sturdy reinforced edges, as well as the strong and secure grommets for reliable tie-down. All of these features, combined with the strong and tear-resistant material, makes this a no-brainer as a choice for the most demanding of uses. It is rather heavy, due to its thickness and its size; personally, I would struggle to deploy this tarp without some help (but I’m also older and on the small side!).
