Preset Submersible Heater Shatter-resistant, auto safety shut-off, LED indicator. QuietFlow Power Filtration LED light that indicates when it's time to change the cartridge. Accessories and Samples Setup guide, food and water care samples, fish net and thermometer for getting started. Place aquarium on stand Make sure stand and aquarium are level on all sides, only use furniture designed to hold the weight of a filled aquarium. (aquarium stand sold separately). Rinse gravel Use your favorite gravel style (not included inside kit) and rinse before adding to the aquarium. Layer gravel at the bottom of aquarium 1 - 3 inches deep. Rinse decor Find your chosen decor pieces (not included inside kit). After finding a location inside the aquarium, cover the base of the plants with gravel to hold them securely in place. Add Water & Water Conditioner Use room temperature water and pour over hand to avoid moving decor, fill aquarium 1/2-inch from the top of the frame -- always use Water Conditioner when adding water to aquarium. So, first issue is the filter broke after five days of setting up the tank right after I got everything cycled (fast tracked with API Quick Start) and already bought my betta. I opted to put the betta in the fish tank anyway since an unfiltered but already cycled and roomy fish tank would be better than the cup I was trying to rescue it from. This isn't too big of a deal to me since my plan was already to get a sponge filter set up. I just got this tank kit to get me started. I am technically a beginner but my mom was a fish tank enthusiast for some time so I know some ins and outs. If you are a true beginner and planning on depending on this kit, I would be careful with the purchase. I may have just gotten a bad filter; the other reviews kind of hint that may be the case. Either way, the filter breaking just fast tracked my timeline to building my "dream fish tank." Another small issue is the suction cup for the heater doesn't work (you can see it floating in the back right corner). And, it is not adjustable so look to get fish that like the 75F-79F range (as shown on my thermometers). Bettas are okay in this temp, although it is a little high and I am eyeing a better heater anyway. So, again this is not too much of an issue for my situation. Ten gallons is perfect for beginners as long as they do their research and don't overstock the tank or mix incompatible species, so that is a plus and the tank itself seems to be great. The hood and lighting are perfect. for beginners. The hood looks stylish and the lights are a good brightness (with the filter running they have a ripple effect of actual sunlight on a sea/lake bed). The cord for the lights have a switch to turn them on and off and its places on a spot on the cord that should make it accessible with most set ups. I do plan to get a clear hood and one of those lights that have the night/day led lights just because that is my preference for now, but I will be saving this hood for either another fish tank or if I decided to swap back and fourth. All the other little things that came with the fish tank are good. Used the water conditioner and it works just fine. There are some coupons for fish food and supplies. It also came with sample fish flakes; I just used those to help jumpstart my nitrogen cycle, but I will be feeding my betta a variety of pellets, freeze dried, frozen, and live food so they weren't needed beyond initial set up. Excessive silicone in the inside corners of the aquarium as others have mentioned? Yes. But the plants hide them nicely. And at least I know the tank is sealed. I love this aquarium. EASY set up, even for this septuagenarian. The pump and filter are super quiet. The fish are healthy and love it. The water conditioner sample that came with it created healthy tap water. The fish love the sample food packet. I haven’t needed to use the water clarity sample package yet. It’s sleek, beautiful, easy to feed or add water when needed, but… the LED light lid is awkward and cannot easily set it up and stay when you need to lift it to access the tank. It can be done, just takes 3-4 tries. They could have done better with that. Oh… and the b&w instruction packet doesn’t help in all areas and is confusing in places. Use the slick paper color booklet. It’s much more thorough and easier to understand. PS- I learned the pump gets noisy only if you have the water level too high. PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS IT KILLED MY FISH!! the tank itself is okay so a lot of glue. The lid is really flimsy which I like because it’s easy to take off and has lights. The lights work but aren’t super strong so not great for heavily plated tanks. The heater is garbage you’ll have to get a new one AND THE FILTER KILLED MY FISH!!! Perfect size for a few fish to have a nice home, we currently have two tetras, a corydora, small tetra, and a bottom feeder. Could probably get 1-2 more but their all very happy at this number. Accessories and Samples Setup guide, food and water care samples, fish net and thermometer for getting started. Place aquarium on stand Make sure stand and aquarium are level on all sides, only use furniture designed to hold the weight of a filled aquarium. (aquarium stand sold separately). Rinse gravel Use your favorite gravel style (not included inside kit) and rinse before adding to the aquarium. Layer gravel at the bottom of aquarium 1 - 3 inches deep. Rinse decor Find your chosen decor pieces (not included inside kit). After finding a location inside the aquarium, cover the base of the plants with gravel to hold them securely in place. Add Water & Water Conditioner Use room temperature water and pour over hand to avoid moving decor, fill aquarium 1/2-inch from the top of the frame -- always use Water Conditioner when adding water to aquarium. Add Filter and Rinse Cartridge Rinse filter cartridge and follow filter instructions, place filter on aquarium in desired location. Add Heater and Thermometer Stick thermometer in desired place on aquarium, suction heater to the back of aquarium. Place Light Hood on Aquarium Make sure heater and filter cords flow through the openings in light hood to ensure proper, snug fit. Wait 24 hrs, add Fish Find your favorite fish! Place the sealed bag with the fish inside the aquarium for at least 20 minutes to allow them to get used to the water temperature. Then, release them into the tank by gently scooping them out of the bag with the fish net. It is important not to add more than a few fish at one time or overload the aquarium with fish.
