About this item
Far from being conservative, as Brahms often has been described, his symphonies show the composer as a groundbreaking pioneer far ahead of his time. Semyon Bychkov's love and affection for the music of Brahms goes back to the beginnings of his conducting career, gathering strength throughout his career. In harmony with the WDR Symphony Orchestra, he shows US the depth and the magnificent density of texture and feeling within these symphonies. This 2-DVD set consists of Symphony No. 1 in C Minor, Op. 68; Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 73; Symphony No. 3 in F Major, Op. 90 and Symphony No. 4 in E Minor, Op. 98. Review snippets: Why would I buy another recording of the Brahms symphonies, when I already have excellent ones by Klemperer, Monteux, Haitink, and Boult? Aside from the fun of a visual representation, this set has a first-rate orchestra, with a full, warm / This is a very recommendable re-coupling of Brahms' four symphonies. This review is based on the original Arthaus issues of the 4 symphonies on two discs. This Kultur issue comes from the same masters so it should play the same
