We bought them for our middle school-er for a band concert but they are versatile enough that he will be able to wear them for any dressy or semi-dressy occasion until he outgrows them (which will probably be in two weeks with the way he grows). He has already used them with a suit for a Sweet 16 party for our niece. The shoes look sharp, have a timeless, non-trendy style and were comfortable to wear according to our 11 year old. We actually bought these in a larger size to replace a similar pair of Deer Stag oxfords he had outgrown...our younger boy will inherit the older smaller sized ones which held up well for the five or six times he has thus far worn them.
