About this item
Top Layer: Natural cork sourced from Portugal Bottom Layer: Natural rubber sourced from Malaysia and Thailand Background: No trees are harmed or cut down in the making of a cork yoga mat. Once the cork oak is mature, the bark is harvested by peeling it off the tree. This process enhances its ability to absorb carbon dioxide, which helps the tree regenerate cork. The cork is steamed, softened, and sliced. It’s then bonded together with natural tree rubber under high heat. No glue or adhesive is used. Ta-Da! Your natural cork mat is made and ready to be used. You’ll notice your grip will increase throughout your practice as you sweat. This is due to a waxy substance called suberin, which is released when cork becomes wet, giving you that non-slip grip.
