Just pop up the lid up all the way, set plate down on base plate, add food on your dish, and heat to desired temperature. Holds heat and the base plate makes it great for not burning your fingers when removing dinner plate from microwave. Easy to clean, rinse in sink after use, or use mild soap and a sponge. I love that there's no more food splatter in the microwave which my husband seems to leave for me to clean up. Lol Like I said before, no more burning fingers when removing from microwave. "body": "I use the top as a splatter cover for the microwave and then use both pieces to keep my mother's food warm. I am full time care giver for my elderly mother who thankfully still has a great appetite and eats three meals per day. Although I don't use the microware often, I liked this set because it has a bottom and cover and thought it would work well for keeping a plate of food warm. It works great for that purpose! My mother eats much more slowly than she used to, and I was having a issue keeping her food warm. I keep her meal covered during the entire meal, just lift the lid to get a bite of food for her, then put the cover right back on. This keeps her meal warm throughout the entire meal. The heating pad I bought does not work well so having this set has been a real help as my mother doesn't enjoy her meal if it gets cold. This has been a lifesaver and has given my mother the enjoyment of a warm meal again. This is large enough to fit the largest of dinner plates. The top also folds down for space saving storage.
