I just pulled a 3 TB HDD from my machine as I upgraded. It works fine, but I didn't want to burden the power supply anymore, while I do have an M.2 alternative. This enclosure is the best solution to create a backup drive that sit on the desk, and is used to have a redundant copy of all the data. The plastic/ metal combination is very well made and it's very sturdy. The charger gave me a hard time trying to install the socket head to the brick, but it wasn't a deal breaker. The USB cable has ample length and works great. The drive was a bit loose inside the container, but the manufacturer thought of that so they included a sponge with double-sided tape that you can put where it's needed, and it works. One more thing, the pamphlet doesn't tell you how to open the incluser correctly. Please slide it horizontally and don't pull it up (as the sketch on the pamphlet shows). It slides out. Read more

This enclosure works perfectly and was ready to go in less than a minute. It's a tool-less design so all you really have to do is slide off the cover, pop in your drive, and close it up. My drive sat a bit loose in the enclosure, but they provide two foam pads (one thick, one thin) to make the fit more snug. I stuck the thick pad down on the lid towards the end away from the ports, and it immediately stopped any rattling and clunking when moving it around. The lid feels a bit too easy to slide off, which isn't terribly confidence inspiring. However it still seems to hold well even if the latch disengages. I wasn't able to feel much wiggle room when I pulled on the cover, you have to slide it all the way out for it to come off. For the price, I'll give it a pass on this point. In the enclosure my hard drive mounts like any other removable storage, and it fully supports SMART. The drive supports USB 3 over its USB-C port, which is more than sufficient for my mechanical drive. Using the included USB-A to USB-C cable, I hit about 150 MB/s read speeds, which is pretty close to the drive's performance over SATA. I didn't bother to test write speeds since it's an SMR drive, so it would be limited by the drive itself. I noticed read speeds dropping after a few benchmarks, though I'm not sure whether that's because of the enclosure or the drive itself. The drive will even go into standby after a period of inactivity, just like it did when I had it in my desktop. Do note that pressing the power button will cause the drive to immediately power off without confirmation. It doesn't unmount or wait until it's finished writing, it will instantly cut power to the drive. I wished it would've taken at least a long press to power off. To summarize, I'm pretty happy with this drive, and it seems to be one of the few nicer enclosures that supports USB-C. Read more

This enclosure worked fine for about a month. After that it started randomly disconnecting from the computer for 10-15 seconds, then it will reconnect. This happens about every 2-3 hours. As I use this drive for scheduled backups it is unacceptable for it to be disconnecting. I have tried 3 different USB-C cables, and it exhibits the same behavior no matter what I do. If the seller is willing to replace it I will update this review. If not, I would not recommend using it for data critical purposes. Edited: The seller contacted me and offered to either replace this enclosure or refund my money. As I have had their products before and have generally had good luck with them I opted for a replacement. In the week since it has come and been installed I have had no further issues with this enclosure. It's easy to install the drive and it's working fine. I have a 16TB HDD installed in it and works well with it. Thanks to the seller for making this right. Read more
5.0 out of 5 stars Great device! Works perfectly for my needs...to transfer data off an old hard drive from a broken computer.

July 21, 2016
This external hard drive enclosure worked perfectly for what I needed....a way to get my files off the internal hard drive of a PC that had crashed. I was very sad when my computer died because I hadn't backed all my pictures and music up. At least, it had been quite a long while since I had done that, so I knew there were many left on the drive. I ordered this enclosure because I needed a way to connect my internal hard drive to a different computer. It was not the easiest thing in the world to distract the hard drive from my old computer, but putting it into this ORICO hard drive enclosure was super easy and fast. Got it connected to my new PC and was able to find and transfer my old files. The data transfer was remarkably fast. I did not have any issues with overheating, as I have read in some other review may be of concern. The unit has a power on and off switch, and I just turned it off when I was done transferring the files. So I would think that this drive is fine to use occasionally without fear of overheating, if you just turn it on when you need it and then turn it off when you're done. It may not be the best choice for continuous use applications, where you leave it turned on all the time, because it doesn't have a ventilation system. But that is not how I'm using it, so I'm only speculating. It works perfectly for my needs! Disclaimer: I was allowed to purchase this product at a discounted rate in exchange for agreeing to leave a review. I am pleased with it. Great purchase! It allowed me to save my files, and that is priceless. Read more

I installed a 4TB SATA hard drive in this ORICO enclosure, and it’s been working flawlessly. The drive was recognized instantly — no drivers or setup needed. I’m using it with a NUC running Ubuntu, and it’s been 100% compatible. Transfer speeds are good, the power adapter works well, and the enclosure stays cool and quiet. Overall, it’s an excellent and reliable option if you need a simple external case for large SATA drives. Read more

Read more",

"title": "4.0 out of 5 stars Initial issues but prompt action from seller appears to have solved them",
"body": "This enclosure worked fine for about a month. Read more",

"title": "5.0 out of 5 stars Great device! Works perfectly for my needs...to transfer data off an old hard drive from a broken computer.",
"body": "This external hard drive enclosure worked perfectly for what I needed....a way to get my files off the internal hard drive of a PC that had crashed. Read more",
