For best results, simply wipe the surface with a damp cloth before first use to remove any residue. Do they smell bad? How to fix it? New dumbbells might have a mild rubber scent. The initial odor comes from non-toxic rubber curing agents and will dissipate naturally. For peace of mind, you can wipe with diluted vinegar, and air out in ventilation for 3-5 days.
